Karen began her career as an assistant editor at the Instrumentalist Company, which then published The Instrumentalist, Clavier, and Accent on Music magazines. She wrote and edited for all three, co-managed Accent, and received a Distinguished Achievement Award from EdPress for an interview with flutist James Galway. She also freelanced music stories for Keyboard and Frets magazines, as well as for newspapers and general interest publications.
